D’Silva opined that not just Margao but other towns close to Margao also should get the benefits of the mission as they are in close vicinity of the city. The MMC has also been promised of another Rs 500 crore.
Meanwhile, D’Silva spoke to the DMA and the Urban Development Minister about the acute shortage of the compactors, rickshaws and other equipments mandatory for MMC.
“Presently MMC has five compactors out of which one has broken down. The municipality needs eight more compactors and rickshaws for proper and effective collection of garbage,” he said.
The DMA has assured grant these requirements soon, he added.
Meanwhile, the chairperson has promised a vehicle at the Gandhi market for daily collection of garbage. The vehicle will be stationed at the market and collect the garbage time to time.
