MARGAO: The Assolna village panchayat has issued a letter to the Water Resources Department (WRD), seeking clarification regarding a proposed well project that could potentially impact the village’s lake, known as ‘Modlam Tollem’. The panchayat expressed its disappointment and concern, stating that it had not been consulted before the WRD issued a well-sinking permit to an individual.
In the letter addressed to the WRD Executive Engineer, Works Div XIII, the Sarpanch of Assolna highlighted the panchayat’s role in safeguarding the village’s water bodies.
Modlam Tollem holds immense ecological and biodiversity significance for the local community and society as a whole. The panchayat emphasised that protecting such water sources is a fundamental responsibility of the State and the local authorities.
The panchayat urged the WRD and other relevant authorities, all of whom received copies of the letter, to take immediate action to address the concerns raised and halt any activities that may adversely affect the village’s water bodies.
