MARGAO: While appealing to the people to attend the public hearing on Goa Coastal Zone Management plan in large number All India Congress Committee Secretary in-charge of Goa Dinesh Gundu Rao said the NSA has been invoked only to prevent people from participating in it and said it was ridiculous to impose NSA during the pandemic.
Speaking to media persons before leaving for Delhi he said the BJP was resorting to high handedness to suppress the voice of the people and said he would not be surprised if very soon it is imposed in North Goa as well.
He appealed to Goans to register themselves in large numbers to participate in the public hearing as it was their right and also moral responsibility to preserve the unique land called Goa along with its heritage and culture.
Dinesh Rao was speaking at a function organised by the South Goa District Congress office where about 10 kg of rations were distributed to people from Nuvem constituency. While today around 500 packets were distributed altogether 2000 packets will be distributed in the constituency declared former minister Aleixo Sequeira.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar said the government was solely responsible for the deaths due to Covid as despite knowing that the second wave would hit it did not prepare for it.
“People died because there was no oxygen, no ventilators and no beds. What prevented the government from making arrangements to provide all of these in advance,” he asked.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat said the government has ignored his plea to offer a Rs 100 crore package to motorcycle pilots, rickshaw drivers and taxi owners to tide over the crises and pointed out that the South Goa District Hospital has come as a relief only because the Congress had completed it while the BJP had slept over it for nearly eight years.
AICC observers Sunil Hanumannavar and Mansoor Khan along with GPCC vice president Agnelo Fernandes were present for the programme.
