MARGAO: Auda Viegas, the founder president of Bailancho Ekvott, has demanded that the railway authorities take immediate steps to make the railway stations and particularly the platforms safe for people and held the railways responsible for the kidnapping of a child from Margao railway station.
“Why did the railway authorities allow people to sleep on the platform on a regular basis?” she asked suggesting that the railway authorities allow such people to sleep in the waiting room or designate a special place for the homeless to spend the night.
She said there was no safety at all at the Margao Railway Station where metal detectors are installed only at the main entrance while the station has many other points of entry.
“While earlier alcohol smuggling was exposed at the station, it is quite possible that even drugs are being sold and maybe terrorist activities will take place shortly,” she said lamenting that the railway authorities do not give any thought to safety at the platform.
She said the police cannot be blamed for everything and while appreciating the Konkan Railway police for doing their best, said the Railway Authorities should be held accountable for the missing child.
