Authorities finally install railing on ramp for PwDs in Panjim after O Heraldo highlights issue

PANJIM: After O Heraldo highlighted how the ramp constructed for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) on the adjoining footpath along the 50-metre cement concrete paver block stretch between Hindu Pharmacy and Ritz Café near Garcia de Orta in Panjim was unsafe, the authorities have finally installed a railing on the ramp.

The particular ramp was without a railing and was unsafe. The authorities have installed a silver ramp with stainless steel railing, giving a sense of safety to the pedestrians particularly PwDs.

The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) appointed contractor had replaced the pavers that had developed cracks, however, the cracks have started developing again and filth and trash can still being seen on the said stretch.  The project is incomplete and work on the said stretch will restart post monsoon.

This stretch has been constructed by an IPSCDL appointed contractor as part of the beautification and pedestrianisation of Cafe Bhonsle Square. The area was being developed as a pedestrian zone after discussions with the CCP; hence paver blocks were laid instead of constructing a concrete road on the said stretch. However, the CCP has reportedly asked IPSCDL to drop the plan and develop the said stretch as a full-fledged road where even heavy vehicles can ply.
