PANJIM: Following directions from Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, various government authorities have swung into action undertaking repair works of the Miramar-Dona Paula concrete road on a priority basis.
Public Works Department (PWD), Electricity Department and Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) are jointly undertaking the repair works.
On Wednesday, the Chief Minister held a meeting to review the dilapidated condition of the concrete road. The meeting came following a report on Herald’s Tuesday special ‘PANJIM PAGE’ exposing how the road, built at a cost of over Rs 72 crore, in a bid to provide a smoother and safer rider the commuters, has defeated the purpose. The road currently is in bad shape with manholes that have come off or are not properly placed, huge screw-like projections and holes on the footpaths, making it difficult for motorists.
Works being undertaken include installation of LED pole lights and signboards, cleaning of footpaths and cutting off branches of trees which hinder the traffic flow.
PWD has also started cleaning sewerage manholes and replacing concrete cover rims with fiber rims. The work is to hastened to be completed as fast as possible.
Parrikar has also directed Goa State Infrastructure Development Authority (GSIDC) to draft a long-term policy for maintenance and cleanliness of the road.
