MARGAO: Goyche Fudle Pidke Khatir (GFPK), an organisation committed to the safeguarding the interests of present and future generation of Goans is organising an awareness programme on the topic “Draft Outline Development Plan (ODP) for Margao” on January 22, at Clergy Home, Margao.

Environmental architect Elsa Fernandes and educationist Antonio Alvares will provide guidance during the programme which will commence at 4.30 pm.

“Urban Planning in Goa needs professional and scientific attention. The cities in Goa have been in the hands of politicians and the business experts who have been treating it as a cash counter for transacting ‘FAR’ for a premium, when actually what Goa deserves is a Land Use Policy with a vision for the future and application of the urban planning guidelines of the Central Ministry of Urban Development,” said Jack Mascarenhas, GFPK president.

“The people of Goa know that their land is their limited resource which is why a special status need was felt to protect it and further plan its sustainable use. The Land Use policy and a State Perspective Plan would have been a boon of our own governance to the people of Goa in this regard,” he added.

“To unwind these issues which have long term impacts on our towns and their future, a Margao-specific presentation, discussion and sharing views of the locals is scheduled. The 74th Constitutional Amendment mandates each of us with this responsibility and GFPK has decided to do its bit towards our beautiful Goa with this awareness programme on Sunday,” Jack added.
