Councillor Babita Naik has clinched an uncontested victory in the race for the post of Vice Chairperson of the Margao Municipal Council. The filing of nominations for the coveted position concluded on Monday, February 12th, with Naik emerging as the sole candidate.
With no other contenders, Naik’s official declaration as the Vice Chairperson of the Margao Municipal Council took place on Tuesday. The vacancy in the Vice Chairperson’s post arose due to the resignation of Deepali Sawal last week, creating an opportune moment for a new leader to step into the role.
Gaurish Shankwalkar, the chief officer of the Margao municipality, had revealed on Monday that three nominations were received for the vice chairperson post, all filed by Babita Naik on the last day of the nomination period.
