MERCES: With the opposition to setting up of garbage treatment plant in Bainguinim gaining momentum, St Cruz MLA Babush Monserrate has offered space in Taleigao, which he said, can cater to the needs of Panjim, St Cruz and Taleigao constituencies.
“I am at loss to understand why Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is not accepting my proposal,” he said while adding that he is the only MLA who is willing to allot a place to set up the garbage treatment plant.
The issue cropped up when media questioned him on what he was doing to solve the garbage woes at Chimbel, particularly Indira Nagar where heaps of garbage is lying at every nook and corner.
In reply Babush said, “Garbage problem is plaguing the entire State of Goa and not confined only to Chimbel,” he said and added that he has made a proposal to the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to set up a garbage treatment plant at Taleigao. Babush said this treatment plant if it becomes a reality would have the capacity to cater to the three constituencies of Panjim, St Cruz and Taleigao initially.
He further informed that he is in touch with the Portuguese Consulate to get their technology for garbage treatment. “I had talks with the Portugal Consul General and he is keen to share the technology,” he added and stated that he needs help from the government on the issue.
