VASCO: The residents of Vaddem-Vasco on Wednesday caught one-and-half-metre-long baby crocodile from Vaddem lake.
The crocodile which strayed into the residential area, perhaps in search of food, was trapped by animal rescuer Gracias Coutinho, in the Vaddem lake. It was later handed over the Forest Department much to the relief of locals who were in a state of panic for the last few days, ever since the crocodile was sighted.
Coutinho said that the residents had no options but to lay a trap to catch the reptile. He said that the residents had spotted crocodiles straying in the area about 15 days back and had also informed the officials of the forest department, who visited the site and returned. Again on Monday, the resident spotted a crocodile after which they decided to lay a trap.
However, the residents have still expressed their apprehensions that there are two more crocodiles in the lake and have appealed to the forest department to lay traps to catch them.
