CANACONA: A newborn baby was found abandoned near the village stream, a few metres away from the national highway at Gulem-Canacona on Friday.
According to Canacona Police Inspector Harischandra Madkaikar, the baby boy was sent for medical attention to Goa Medical College in Bambolim.
Madkaikar further informed that a case has been registered against the unknown mother and investigation is in progress to trace the mother and other culprits.
Sources informed that a person residing in Gulem went to the stream to answer nature’s call early Friday morning when he heard some cries.
The person went in the direction only to find movements from a wrapped cloth. Thinking that it might be a pet, the man left, but informed other villagers about the matter.
As the word spread, some women went to the rivulet only to find a baby boy wrapped in a cloth and placed right by the stream.
Finally, police shifted the baby to the health centre which later sent the baby to GMC, informed police sources.
