PORVORIM: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte have alleged that bad politics and bad policing is leading to law and order situation in State.

Khaunte was speaking to the media persons after submitting representation to Chief Election Officer (CEO) over illegal inclusion of names in electoral list of voters of Porvorim Constituency.

“118 bogus names are found included in electoral list in a ward of Socorro Panchayat. All these names are of people who are non Goans and their names are included without following proper verification process. The government machinery has been managed to put the names of these people,”  he said.

“It is a Constitutional Right to vote but making use of government machinery to misuse the right to vote is not acceptable. We have given representation to Chief Election Officer and CEO has assured to give us report within eight days. We have also asked him for investigation in this matter. We will also ensure that the people who have done this are taken to task if not by this process than by judicial process,” the Porvorim MLA informed.

Stating on the law and order situation, Khaunte said, “People who are coming to Goa are also answerable and responsible for law and order situation today. List shows that the names are manipulated and whoever concerned needs to take corrective action and ensure that these names are cancelled. I charge the government for this case of manipulation of numbers and names of bogus voters in the electoral list.”

“A panch approached Mamlatdar to highlight this issue of bogus voters last week but did not get proper reciprocation. If this has happened in Porvorim then there is also need for all MLAs to check on this in their constituency. Also the online mechanism should be clear and transparent. Online mechanism is being misused in putting names of people who do not reside here. People who are residing on rent, their names are included. People having fake bank accounts, account copy is being used for inclusion of names where proper verification process is not being followed and those file objections, their cases are not being taken for hearing,” Khaunte added.

He further alleged the BJP government for using government machinery in manipulation of electoral list. The government has put in maximum mechanism to ensure that these names are properly forged and included in the voters list. We have taken this case through right process and by following right procedure and expect positive response from the CEO,” Khaunte said.

He also appealed to the people to open their eyes on this issue of fake voters and also said that the government officers involved in this manipulation of voting names will be taken for task.

Khaunte also pointed that it is serious matter of concern that almost 15 per cent of the voters registered in a ward are found to be non Goans.

He also alleged that Health Officer of Porvorim Health Centre was transferred since he was not releasing no objection certificate (NOC) on Health Act to illegal slums in Porvorim.
