PANJIM: Indirectly taking a dig at the government for moving out the IIT Goa Project from Sanguem to Sattari, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar said his constituency was robbed of the prestigious project without application of mind.

He said that the Sanguem was a backward area and such kind of project would have given boost to development and upliftment of the people. “There was enough land in the constituency which could have been used for the IIT project but the government had some other plans,” he said.
He said the project was moved from Sanguem as there were minor issues of some farmers, which could have been settled by sitting across the table.
“The beautiful Sanguem Constituency is the best place for a educational hub like IIT. Even our former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had promised me that the IIT would come up in Sanguem,” he said.
When asked whether he is ready to welcome IIT as it is being opposed in Sattari, he replied in a negative.
“I cannot say anything. I am with the government in every decision so let them decide. For now the IIT is moved to Guleli and that is it,” he said. Gaonkar, who met Chief Minister on Sanjivini Sugar Factory issue, said he had taken a proposal to the Sawant for operation of the factory through a private agency.
“The Chief Minister said he will look into the portal and get back. Our issue is that the farmers are dependent on sugarcane produce and they should not be left to die and hence I am taking all the pain,” he stated.
