PANJIM: The Anjuna police arrested Pramod alias Babu Khorjuvenkar (43) of Arpora on the charge of murdering Allan D’Souza (28) of Assagao.

It may be recalled that Allan’s body was found under mysterious circumstances at Baga, Arpora, on August 25.

The family received a phone call from Constable Akash Naik of Anjuna police station, who informed them that their son has met with an accident and asked them to come to the primary health centre at Candolim.

The police later took the family to the PHC at Candolim where they observed that there was no major injury or accident marks or blunt force on Allan’s body. Nonetheless, they saw him bleeding from the ears and his body had turned purple-black.

The family also observed that the shoe of his right leg was scrapped and the skin of his right foot and toes had peeled off and bones were exposed. The family then suspected poisoning as the motive and the minor injuries on his feet revealed that he was dragged when he was in an unconscious state and thrown on a hard surface.

Allan’s father Antonio D’Souza suspected that his son had died of unnatural causes and refused to buy the theory of the police that it was an accidental case. Inquiries also revealed that Allan’s body was 100 metres away from where his two-wheeler was parked and the issue of the accident was ruled out.

Allan’s brother Emmanuel then asked the police to obtain CCTV footage of the area, which revealed that Allan was dragged from one place to another on a two-wheeler in an unconscious state thus revealing the evidence of a conspiracy to commit murder, destruction of evidence and concealing of crime.

Antonio D’Souza in his letter to the police on August 28, requested police to register a murder case against four persons including Khorjuvenkar.

The police then took Khorjuvenkar into custody and during the course of interrogation, the police found that he was involved in the crime. More arrests are likely in the offing, police said.

The Anjuna police have registered a case under section 302 read with 34 IPC.
