VASCO: The fisherwomen from Baina fish market have complained to the Mormugao Municipal Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes that they have not been getting customers since last many days due to sale of fish on roadside.
The chief officer assured the women that action would be taken to ensure that no fish is sold outside fish market.
The fisherwomen from the Baina fish market said that they have no income for the last several days due to dearth of customers. This is because of the sale of fish outside the fish market by some fishermen.
Fernandes informed the women that he has issued an order to the market inspectors to prevent sale of fish beyond market borders.
“However, if it continues, the market inspectors have been asked to take penal action and seize the material of the errand vendors immediately,” the chief officer said.
The market remained shut on Tuesday as a mark of protest against sale of fish outside the market. The fisherwomen said that they are paying the fees for Municipality and at least 25 fishermen are selling fish outside the market.
