VASCO: Mormugao Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Salim Shaikh on Wednesday said that the Baina police outpost will be made fully operational and that police patrolling will be increased at vulnerable areas.
DySP Shaikh informed this to mediapersons after Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar and others met him and demanded immediate arrest of assailants involved in assaulting a priest and workers of Maruti temple at Baina beach.
He said that the police will study the matter and opined three Mormugao wards ie ward VII, VIII and IX needs to be in close proximity of police station. In view of this, Baina police outpost will be revived with the posting of additional personnel such as one PSI, five to six head constables and constables.
Stating that Baina beach has now become a major tourist spot with large number of tourists visiting there daily, DySP Shaikh said that the people will ensure that such incidents will not be repeated and police will increase patrolling in the beach areas or any other vulnerable area. A PCR van will also be stationed at regular intervals at Baina and round up those indulging in illegalities and initiate legal action against them.
Earlier, a delegation headed by Vasco MLA Salkar met DySP Shaikh and demanded immediate arrest of all assailants involved in attacking the priest and workers of a temple within next seven days. He said that about 15 persons are involved in attacking the priest and demanded that the police should arrest them and send a strong message that such lawlessness will not be tolerated.
The Vasco MLA further said that he has already informed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant about this incident and has requested him to direct the police to put an end to anti-social activities happening at the Baina beach.
