PANJIM: “Wings of Wonder”, India’s first Raptor exhibition dedicated to birds of prey highlighting 60+ raptor species will be inaugurated by environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar and Deputy Conservation of Forests (Wildlife and Eco-Tourism, North Goa) Anand Jadhav at the
WWF-India Goa office premises, situated behind Goa Science Centre, Miramar at 4 pm on Friday, January 6.

As many as 107 species of raptors are recorded in India. WWF India commenced its endeavour on raptor conservation in 2019 with a focus on vultures and its Raptor Conservation programme now includes applied research, conservation action and enhancing awareness and capacity of stakeholders towards raptor conservation. It uses citizen science as an effective platform to boost knowledge and conservation efforts for raptors.
WWF India-Goa officer-in-charge and senior coordinator-Marine Conservation Aditya Kakodkar, raptors are prey birds and as top predators are representatives of a healthy ecosystem. Hence, raptor conservation leads to protection of many other species. The exhibition serves as an advocate for raptor protection, highlights the need for active managements of their habitats and encourages citizens to learn more about this group of often neglected birds.
“Through this exhibition we are highlighting 60+ raptor species, to let visitors discover magnificent world of raptors and appreciate the need for their conservation,” he said.
The exhibition will be open to the general public until February 15 from 10 am to 5 pm except weekends and public holidays. Kakodkar has urged schools and colleges to contact the WWF-India Goa office by email [email protected] for planned visits.
