PANJIM: As the Bainguinim garbage treatment plant case came up for hearing before the High Court of Bombay at Goa, Wednesday, the Old Goa panchayat informed the court that it had issued the licence for construction of the compound wall of the proposed garbage plant, to the Corporation of the City of Panaji.
The High Court was hearing a case on the issue and had kept the hearing for yesterday, by which the panchayat was asked to appraise the court about the status and file its reply by Wednesday on the non issuance of NOC for the construction of protection wall for garbage treatment plant at Bainginim.
The construction licence is subject to conditions that the validity of the licence depends on the outcome of the case pending before Sessions Court and that the NOC should be sought from the PWD as there was a water pipeline going through the site.
The High court had passed an order that the garbage disposal project should be completed within a year some four months ago, giving the CCP some eight months to complete the project.
The city generates approximately 100 tonnes of garbage every day and the CCP has virtually accepted that there is no other choice other than the Bainguinim site for setting up the garbage plant.
A total of 1,71,312 sq mts of land at Bainguinim was handed over to the CCP in November 2008, for setting up garbage treatment plant for the city
The GSPCB after examining the proposal gave authorization to CCP till June 24, 2016.
The construction licence is subject to conditions that the validity of the licence depends on the outcome of the case pending before Sessions Court and that the NOC should be sought from the PWD as there was a water pipeline going through the site
