CANACONA: In a memorandum submitted to the South Goa Superintendent of Police and District Collector, the residents of Canacona and the police team looking into the matter have called for strict measures against the miscreants including banishing them from Canacona.
Recently there was a joint meeting held between the Canacona Nagrik Manch with the Canacona DySP and Police inspector.
Around 25 members were present, along with Arvind Dessai, Shantaji Dessai, Jack Fernandes, Nandeep Bhagat, Diwakar Pagi, Shyamsundar Dessai and others. The residents were informed that after the police had taken the matter on top priority and following investigations they had submitted a file on the miscreants to the SP, who later forwarded the same to the Collectorate. In it, they have recommended, banishing these thugs from Canacona and added they are keeping a close watch on isolated places with regular patrols especially tourist spots such as Palolem, and Agonda.
Speaking on measures to protect the residents and tourists from the unprecedented rise of organised attacks by thugs, the DySP informed that the process of installing a check post at Palolem parking lot is underway and will be ready before the season. Canacona Municipal Council has also passed a resolution for installing CCTVs and has forwarded the proposal to South Goa MP.
DySP and PI appreciated the formation of Canacona Nagrik Manch and the locals’ interest in security of Canacona.
Regarding the file on the miscreants, Canacona police said that the same had been submitted to the Collector recently. The police have listed the details of the miscreants involved in crimes such as extortion, theft, assault on residents and tourists. The police have stated that they have updated the cases recorded against miscreants along with photographs and criminal connections. The 60-odd page dossier has been compiled by Canacona Police Department and has been submitted by Canacona DySP, informed police officials.
