According to Haldankar, the proposal for a five-day banking week was agreed upon and formally signed on March 8, 2024, but its implementation has remained pending for more than two years.

He said the unions have decided to intensify their agitation if the demands are not addressed. Haldankar warned that bank employees would launch an indefinite strike from October 26, 2026, if the government fails to take action.

The proposed strike is expected to affect banking services across the country during the three-day period, with the unions seeking early resolution of their demands.
