The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a fresh spell of rain across several parts of India on Friday, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
Jharkhand has been placed under an orange alert for the next 24 hours, with Ranchi, Khunti, Gumla, Simdega and West Singhbhum likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. A yellow alert has also been issued for 11 other districts.

In West Bengal, a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy rainfall in several areas until Saturday morning. Very heavy showers are likely in Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar.
Odisha is also expected to witness widespread rainfall, with some areas likely to experience very heavy showers.
The IMD has further forecast widespread rain over Bihar, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, with extremely heavy rainfall possible at isolated locations.
Along with the rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely in several affected areas. Authorities and residents in the alert districts have been advised to remain cautious as weather conditions could deteriorate in some locations.
