MAPUSA: With a surge in dengue cases reported in Bardez, the village panchayats from Bardez have decided to meet the health officials to draw up an action plan to combat the Vector Borne Diseases at the Awareness Session which will be held on September 21 at Socorro Panchayat Hall
The session will be attended by sarpanchs, deputy-sarpanchs & panchayat secretaries of 33 panchayats across Bardez. This initiative has come after GOACAN Co-ordinator Roland Martins moved a proposal to Rajesh Azgaonkar Deputy Collector Mapusa & Chairman Block Committee for Control of Vector Borne Diseases at the meeting held recently seeking active involvement of the village panchayats.
The session will be convened by the Bardez Block Development Officer Shivprasad S. Naik and will cover the challenges faced by village panchayats in controlling vector borne diseases and the chalking out of an action plan to tackle the same.
Dr. Kalpana Mahatme State In charge NVBDCP of DHS and Dr. Roshan Nazareth, Health Officer PHC Candolim will be the resource persons for the session which will address the effective use of the Public Health Act and Panchayati Raj Act to combat the diseases.
As a follow up, the Panchayats will be encouraged to incorporate control of vector borne diseases in their Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), involving various Committees and discuss at the Gram Sabha meeting to be held on October 2 regarding rise in cases of dengue and need for ward wise cleanliness drives.
