PANJIM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain in the next 24 hours in many places in the State, which may continue till July 23. IMD has also warned fishermen not to venture into the sea due to the rough weather condition.
Goa received very heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday leading to water logging, falling trees and some minor landslides.
On Wednesday IMD recorded very heavy rainfall in Valpoi that was 16 cms and Ponda and Ela (Old Goa) 12 cms each, while Panjim and Sankhali received 11 cms each, Mapusa, Pernem and Sanguem received 9 cms each, Mormugao and Quepem 8 cms each and Canacona and Margao 7 cms each.
Officials of the emergency services, Deputy Collectors, Disaster Management Authorities are closely monitoring the weather conditions in the State to avoid any major calamity.
The IMD forecast has warned fishermen from Goa and Maharashtra that the winds will be South Westerly with speeds of 45-50kmph temporarily reaching 60 kmph in gusts. In such circumstances fishermen are advised not to go put in the sea during next 24 hours. A port warning has also been issued by IMD.
