MARGAO: A inter-state bus of the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTC) that was heading to Belagavi from Margao broke down a few kilometres after it left the bus stand on Saturday.
Around 25-30 passengers were in great distress after the bus broke down in Pajifond Aquem. The bus goes to Belgaum via Sanvordem.
Some of these passengers were senior citizens were upset as they had already made arrangements to head to other places once they got to Belagavi and said they would reach late.
There were others who were visiting Belagavi for shopping were annoyed that their day would have been wasted due to the bus breaking down. There were locals from Belagavi too in the bus.
While the bus had broken down as fuel was leaking, another bus was brought nearly an hour later.
Social worker Dayanand Phaldesai from Canacona hit out at the State government and KTC Chairman and Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar, over such incidents occurring regularly due to the poor maintenance of the old KTC buses.
“The bus broke down in Margao itself and that is a great shame. Immediate action has to be taken,” he added.
