BELGAUM: In a bid to persuade the Goa government to withdraw the entry tax on outstation vehicles, a delegation comprising of members of the Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) and other organisations is expected to meet Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza on Tuesday.
The delegation is also likely to hold a meeting with the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries to seek their support in the matter.
Members of Belgaum Motor Transport Association, Khanapur Truck Owner Association, Belgaum Vegetable Merchant Association and the Kolhapur Chamber of Commerce are also joining the delegation.
“The Goa government should withdraw the entry tax on vehicles from Belgaum, as the tax will also add an indirect burden on people of Goa,” stated BCCI President Satish Tendulkar.
Though transporters from Karwar, Belgaum and Sindhudurg districts adjacent to Goa had threatened to suspend operations from Sunday midnight, the decision has been kept in abeyance as members of different organizations have preferred to wait and watch the next step of the Goa government.
