MARGAO: The Colva police on Tuesday succeeded in recovering the weapon allegedly used by Suraj Myageri and Mangala Sidnal to bludgeon her husband Vishwanath Sidnal to death at Benaulim last week.
The weapon, a spade, was recovered by lady police sub inspector (LPSI) Varshada Naik Dessai at the instance of Mangala, the wife of deceased. LPSI Dessai returned to the family’s rented room in Pedda along with the accused, found the spade lying around 100 metres away with her directions, and seized it under the panchanama. The police said that Mangala’s remand period is ending on April 3 and she will be produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Margao, and further remand will be sought.
On the eve of Holi, accused Suraj visited the family on the pretext of taking up a painting contract with Vishwanath, who was a tile-fitter. He allegedly got the deceased drunk with whisky and murdered him only after the couple’s five-year daughter went to sleep. The two accused were paramours and had reportedly planned the crime for six months since they were unhappy in their respective marriages to different spouses.
