Betalbatim Elder Assault: Son Arrested, Daughter-in-Law Booked After Viral Video Sparks Police Action

A viral video allegedly showing the assault of an elderly man in Betalbatim has led to police action, with Colva Police registering a case, arresting the victim’s son and booking his daughter-in-law in connection with the incident.

The complaint was lodged at the Colva Police Station by Crisostomo Mariano Soares of Cuncolim, who stated that he received the video via WhatsApp on July 9. According to the complaint, the footage allegedly shows an elderly man being repeatedly assaulted, verbally abused and threatened inside a house by a man and a woman.

Following inquiries, the complainant identified the victim as Loyola, a resident of Betalbatim near Martin’s Corner. The alleged accused were identified as his son, Isidoreo Souza, and daughter-in-law, Irene Gonzalves.

In his complaint, Soares requested Colva Police to register an offence and conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. A copy of the video was also submitted as part of the complaint.

Acting on the complaint, Colva Police registered a case against the accused. Police have since arrested Isidoreo Souza, while Irene Gonzalves has also been booked in connection with the alleged assault.

The case has also been registered under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, in addition to the relevant provisions of law. Further investigation is underway.
