PONDA: Bhoma-Adkona gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Sunil Bhomkar strongly opposed the biomedical waste treatment plant proposed by government at Kundaim Industrial Estate.

The locals warned that if the government forces the plant on them, they would take to the streets and even block the national highway.
The villagers said they do not want hazardous biomedical waste treated in their area. Following the resolution after gram sabha the locals inspected the proposed site for bio medical disposal plant at Kundaim IDC.
Few months ago, Minister for Waste Management Michal Lobo had declared that a biomedical waste treatment plant would be built at Kundaim.
For this purpose, the Government had waived off the Rs 7.5 lakh stamp duty that Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) would have to pay for executing the lease deed for 10,000 sqm of land at the Kundaim Industrial Estate. The GWMC will take on lease the land from Goa Industrial Development Corporation.
The locals also demanded that the panchayat take action against steel plants releasing slag into bagayat and fields, which, they alleged, is destroying their crops.
The locals also demanded priority in jobs for the local youth at the industries.
Meanwhile, the gram sabha adopted a resolution that shop owners at the new Banastari market should not rent out their premise.
Another resolution was adopted directing the panchayat to maintain record of tenants residing in the village. A resolution was adopted demanding that government provide bio-toilets to the villagers who applied for and deposited money for same.
