PONDA: A large assembly of Bhoma villagers gathered today to offer prayers to their guardian deity, Coal Nagzarkar, pleading for protection for Bhoma and the entire State of Goa from destruction due to imposed development projects. Villagers earnestly implored their local deity to safeguard their village against political influences and the proposed highway expansion project.
During the prayer ceremony, villagers expressed their concerns, asserting that these projects primarily serve the vested interests of politicians and businessmen from Delhi.
Sanjay Naik, a community leader, called for unity among the Bhomkar people. He highlighted their year-long battle against the widening of National Highway (NH) and the government’s attempt to divide them on this issue.
Naik went on to clarify that recent actions, such as the removal of 62 names from a land acquisition notice, should not mislead the Bhoma locals into thinking that the Central government has abandoned the road-widening project at Bhoma. He called upon local legislators, including the MLA, PWD, and Power Minister, to stop misleading the community.
Bhoma villagers have organised a public meeting scheduled for Sunday, October 15, at 4 pm. The villagers believe that many development projects have been undertaken without transparency, leaving Goans in the dark.
