Bicholim Police have arrested two persons during the ongoing investigation into the alleged firing incident involving Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) Goa chief Upendra Gaonkar and his wife.
The accused, identified as Mohammed Imam Ali of Valpoi and Devidas Gaonkar of Bramhakarmali, Sattari, were taken into custody for allegedly possessing illegal firearms and ammunition.
According to police, the arrests were made as part of a follow-up investigation into the firing case. Preliminary findings suggest that Devidas Gaonkar allegedly sold the firearm used in the offence to the prime accused, Prajyot alias Shirish Gaonkar.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the source of the illegal weapon, the circumstances surrounding its sale, and whether others were involved in the procurement or supply of firearms.
The latest arrests are expected to strengthen the investigation as authorities seek to unravel the complete chain of events leading to the alleged attack on Upendra Gaonkar and his wife.
