Bicholim-Sanquelim Highway in bad shape

People blame the contractor for carrying out a shoddy job which causes potholes during monsoons

The Bicholim-Sanquelim highway which is the only connectivity between these two cities is in bad shape with commuters expressing great displeasure over the work done by the contractor.
The road that joins Bicholim and Sanquelim has developed several potholes with the people blaming the contractor who has not done the work properly. The potholes are visible, especially at Kulan Sanquelim where the entire stretch has been wiped out.
“It is very difficult to ply on this road and this has been the case every year. This stretch gets potholes and the authorities later try to fill them with mud and stones but it is just an eye wash since the problem is amplified during the rains,” Tukaram Sawant said.
“As there were potholes some of the people had filled it with mud and now it has worsened further with many accidents taking place on this spot,” Sawant mentioned.
Most of the time the vehicles, whilst trying to avoid the potholes, take their vehicles on the wrong lane which leads to accidents. Besides this, while trying to avoid the potholes the two wheeler riders lose balance and fall down.
Surprisingly enough the road in question is very close to the residence of a minister and also another former CM. Every year during monsoons this road is filled with potholes.
“We want a permanent solution to this problem; every year the contractor repairs the road but the condition continues to remain same once the rain hits the area. The contractors only fill the road with a thin layer of asphalt which is washed away during monsoons. We wonder why the commuters have to face this problem every year,” said Gauri Chodankar.
“The authorities should take the contractor to task and question him about the condition of the road. There are hundreds of vehicles that ply every day through this road and if this is not repaired it would not only create hardships to the commuters but also cause accidents,” Chodankar claimed.
