BICHOLIM: The police and the concerned authorities seem to have taken the issue of stone quarries seriously in Bicholim as two trucks were fined since last one week.
It may be recalled that Herald had highlighted the issue of stone quarries in Bicholim and other parts after the recent incident of drowning of children at Tuem, Pernem.
The mamletdar had already issued an advisory and had asked the police to cordon the areas and to depute police personnel at the site.
At most of the places now, the entrance of the quarries has been blocked with mud and the police are also trying to detain those who are still operating the quarries.
Since last one week, the Bicholim police detained and fined about two trucks carrying stones. Today some workers were also detained by the police who were found working at one of the quarries.
As per the information, the similar raids would continue in Bicholim.
