PONDA: Power Minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar on Friday informed that the foundation stone laying ceremonies of installing double circuit transmission lines will be held at various places in Margao, Verna, Vasco and Panchwadi on October 21 and 22. Dhavalikar said that the supply, erection, testing and operations of substations will be undertaken with the cooperation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Power Raj Kumar Singh under Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
He said that constituencies of Cuncolim, Nuvem, Fatorda, Curchorem, Cortalim, Vasco and Mormugao will benefit from these works. “Rs 137,66,55,193 crore will be spent on both these development projects and once completed, the power supply to industrial estates, cities and rural areas will be smoothened. After grand stone laying ceremonies spanning two days, this will revolutionise the electricity sector in the State,” said Dhavalikar.

“The laying of foundation stone for underground cabling from Cuncolim to Fatorda subdivision, Raia substation and interlink line Fatorda substation measuring 29.5 kms will begin on Saturday. Later, a power transformer at Verna will be inaugurated followed by the launch of the RDSS scheme. The overhead power lines at Swatantra Path, Vasco will be converted into underground power lines. The estimated cost of these works will be 82.58 crore rupees,” he said.
“On Sunday, work will be inaugurated for the conversion of overhead power lines into underground lines at Margao and Velim. Similar works will be undertaken in parts of Sanvordem and Shiroda constituencies as well.”
He informed that works including the ones which were started last year, will cost Rs 2,640 crore.
“The works of 33 kv lines of high voltage and 11 kv low-voltage in all four constituencies in Ponda are underway. The overhead power lines which are in use since 1965 have worn out and were not replaced in time. These lines will be replaced and due to 63 MVA transformer and electricity conductors, the power supply to industrial estates will stay interrupted. Street lamps too, will be replaced. The government is aware that the locals have to face inconvenience due to trenches dug on the roadside to finish these tasks. However, we assure people that the roads will be hot-mixed as soon as the works undertaken are completed,” he said.
