Big cat spotted at Raia, Camurlim; panic grips villagers

Locals too have informed Herald that they have sighted one leopard moving around in the area in recent days.

MARGAO: Panicky situations have been witnessed amongst the villagers of Camurlim and Raia, as an adult leopard has been on the prowl in the area for the last 15 days. 

Many have also claimed attacks on their domestic animals by the leopard.  

As informed by Camurlim Village Panchayat Sarpanch Basilio Fernandes, they have already informed the Forest Department and a trap has been laid down at the suspected spot. 

Anxious locals especially from the locality of the Tembi area have urged the authorities to keep a vigil so that their domestic animals are not attacked. 

“Many villagers have been informed that they have spotted a leopard in the area and cases of attack on pigs and other domestic animals have been reported.  The leopard is giving sleepless nights to many villagers of Tembi and nearby areas as the wild cat is attacking local pigs and dogs,” Fernandes said. 

He also informed that upon the request, a trap has been laid by the Forest Department for the last two days.
