Big Diwali shopping rush helps loss-making vendors in Ponda earn much-needed revenue

Ponda:  The rush witnessed for this upcoming Diwali festival has provided much-needed relief to vendors whose business had taken a hit during the lockdown and prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.

The demand is so high that even vendors from Hubli, Dharward etc from Karnataka arrived early Wednesday morning to help meet various order requirements. Inquiries revealed that the good sold by them were also at reasonable and affordable rates, which also provided relief to customers and the vendors left the place by evening. 

Vendors such as vegetable, fruit and other businessmen expressed happiness on seeing so many people come out for shipping. They pointed out that there was also a big demand for various type of lamps and colourful garments. 

While some of the vendors followed COVID guidelines and social distancing, there was some concern raised about some vendors and customers not wearing masks as well as crowding in certain areas. 

The Ponda Budhwar Peth Market Vendors President Shankar Naik added  that the idle Ponda market complex be made operational soon.
