VASCO: BJP State Party President Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Saturday confidently stated that the party-backed candidates will win the upcoming Mormugao Municipal Council elections.
Tanavade said, “Three BJP MLAs in Mormugao municipal area will work in sync to develop municipal area in the coming years.”
During a press briefing in port town, Tanavade said that the party is confident that the candidates backed by it will win the Mormugao Municipal Council elections. Later, he declared the names of the candidates whom BJP is backing in the civic polls.
Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho and Mormugao MLA Milind Naik also shared a dais along with the BJP party leaders.
When media persons asked about the internal differences among the MLAs and its impact in the development of the port town, Tanavade replied citing the example of family that there might be some differences of opinions but when it comes to party and its principles, all will keep aside their differences and will work in sync unitedly for the betterment of the municipal area.
He also assured overall development if the BJP-backed candidates come to power in the civic polls.
Meanwhile, replying to a question over the spike in COVID-19 cases in some parts of Goa and is it right to go for municipal elections at this juncture, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho said that some days ago some people went to court over the ward reservation issue and then Supreme Court directed the concerned authorities to hold elections before April 30, so as per that order we have to undertake elections.
Commenting on the COVID cases, Godinho said that it is the responsibility of every individual to sanitise their hands, wear face mask and maintain social distance at all time to avoid the spread of cases.
“Strictly following these safety measures is a must. We have to learn to live with it,” Godinho added.
BJP Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar, Adv Narendra Sawaikar, Satish Dhond and Sanjay Satardekar were also present.
