PANJIM: Labeling Congress workers as “miscreants” for allegedly disrupting their “peaceful” rally over Rafale deal controversy, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Vinay Tendulkar has demanded an apology from them for their “misdeeds.”
The BJP and Congress workers had a major scuffle on Friday evening during a protest march held by the former accusing Rahul Gandhi of misguiding the nation on Rafale issue. The situation turned tense for over an hour at D B Marg with workers from both the parties abusing and hurling items at each other. Workers from both the parties have been booked under various sections of the IPC.
Tendulkar, who led the protest march, took to social media on Sunday demanding apology from the Congress. “I am shocked and saddened at how some members of the Congress disrupted our peaceful rally. Violence and chaos are never the preferred options,” the Rajya Sabha MP tweeted.
“This incident is shameful and the miscreants should have the courtesy to come forward and apologise for their misdeed,” he demanded.
Soon after the incident on Friday, Tendulkar had said that Congress is frustrated following Supreme Court’s clean chit to Narendra Modi-led NDA government over Rafale deal issue.
Congress has alleged that the assault on their workers by BJP karyakartas was a “pre-planned government sponsored” attack in collusion with police forces. The party has even accused Tendulkar of instigating their workers.
