PANJIM: Stating that in democracy we need to respect the judgment of the Supreme Court, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Friday said that the judgment on the municipal ward reservation will have no implications on the winning prospects of the party-backed candidates in any of eleven municipalities and Corporation of The City of Panjim (CCP).
While six municipalities and CCP will go for polls on March 20, the elections in five other municipal areas- Margao, Sanguem, Mormugao, Quepem and Mapusa- will be held by April 30 as per the Supreme Court order.
“We are confident of our panel will be formed in all eleven municipal councils and also in CCP,” said Tanavade.
Reacting to the Apex Court verdict, Tanavade said that the Supreme Court has passed its judgment and in democracy we need to respect and accept it. “We respect the judgment and accept it,” he said.
Tanavade also maintained that the Apex Court verdict is not a ‘setback’ to the government and there is no question of the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant stepping down from the chair, as demanded by the opposition. “Let opposition not tell us what we should do,” he commented
The BJP president said that as directed by the Supreme Court, the government has to undertake fresh reservation in five municipalities within ten days while the Election process has to be completed by April 30.
“The party has full faith in its voters and the people have their trust on BJP led government,” he said adding that the party backed candidates’ campaign is going on in full swing and people are responding positively.
Tanavade said that the ministers and MLAs, from respective areas, are participating in the door to door campaign.
