PANJIM: The BJP State Executive Committee has denounced the Congress and some vested interests for attempting to destabilise the BJP-led coalition.
The day-long meeting on Thursday also slammed the Congress for questioning the credibility of the Cabinet Advisory Committee (CAC).
The meeting that saw huge presence of karyakartas, three Goan MPs and a few sitting and ex-MLAs also discussed at length the developmental works carried out by the government and the ongoing mining crisis.
Senior BJP leader and Urban Development Minister Francis D’Souza sarcastically commented that Opposition party’s duty is to raise voice against the government.
“We are carrying out massive developmental activities in the State be it enhancing infrastructure, introducing and continuing with welfare schemes, etc. This is our achievement, and a befitting reply to Congress’ opposition to various initiatives of Goa government. It is their duty to raise voice,” D’Souza said while addressing the gathering, which was also attended by national leaders like Avinash Rai Khanna, in the capital on Thursday.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane echoed his colleague’s views hinting at Congress’ inefficiency in handling the Centre as well as State affairs.
“It’s a history that though Congress was in power for so many years (at the Centre in the past), nothing was done. In Goa too, developmental activities like infrastructure, widening of roads, four laning, hospitals and all types of welfare schemes are underway under the able leadership of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. Whatever is his vision are being carried out through PM Narendra Modi and Union minister Nitin Gadkari’s support. We have been getting funds that never happened before. Moreover, employment generation in the pipeline,” he stated.
The minister came down heavily on the Congress for questioning the functioning of the CAC, which was formed by Parrikar in March to run the State administration in his absence.
“The Congress is alleging that government is taking illegal decision. They have no issue to raise and that is why they are opposing everything. They have no solution for the current mining crisis, and BJP is proud that only the party and CM can bail out Goa from the crisis. When mining activities were shut in 2012, Parrikar introduced schemes for the mining dependents,” he added.
The executive committee also took a political resolution that the CAC is going strong and performing. It condemned Congress and some vested interests for “trying to destabilize the government, question the CAC and disturb the functioning of the State.”
“We are committed to development. We condemn every attempt to disturb the smooth functioning of the State by creating division on basis of society, religion etc,” the attendees resolved. MP Narendra Sawaikar added that coalition government in Goa is “strong and functioning well.”
Addressing a press conference thereafter, BJP State President Vinay Tendulkar assured that the party is with the people who fear losing livelihood owing to mining ban.
“We express solidarity with the people whose livelihood is affected by the ban on mining activities in view of the judgment by the Supreme Court. BJP reiterates and assures that we fully support them in their hour of crisis and that both the State and Central government will take appropriate measures to resolve the issue,” he said while reading out the political resolution.
The committee also took another resolution on the social justice and empowerment alleging that Congress’ attempts to incite tension over the caste factor is to create vote bank. “The Congress party has always practiced divisive and vote bank politics in this country and used the Dalit card only for garnering votes. Its duplicity on the issue of granting constitutional validity to OBC Commission is well known. The BJP deserves credit for successful passage of OBC Commission Bill in the Lok Sabha but the same was sabotaged by the Congress party in Rajya Sabha as a result of which OBC Commission issue is still pending,” it states.
The party resolved to congratulate PM Modi for ‘his sincere and untiring efforts to work for the development and upliftment of Dalit community …’
