MERCES: Seeking to dispel fears of the minorities, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza said the BJP is a party of all communities and not a communal party as is being labeled by its opponents.
“We currently have six Christian MLAs and four Christian MLAs are supporting us from outside,” he further informed, while stating that the party did not discriminate against any community.
D’Souza was speaking at a Ganv Chalo Abhiyan organized by the St Cruz BJP block at Matruchaya hall, Santa Cruz on Friday.
“During the Assembly elections, our opponents were telling the people that minorities will be harassed if BJP comes to power in Goa,” he said and questioned whether there has been a single case of harassment against any Christian or Muslim during the rule of the BJP thus far.
Requesting workers to strengthen the party in St Cruz constituency, D’Souza assured that they will achieve great heights within the party if they work selflessly and tirelessly.
“Today, I have achieved success only because I am part of the BJP party,” he said and stated that he would not have reached such level if he was in any other party.
With Lok Sabha elections slated for next year, D’Souza urged the voters to vote for the BJP as it is a party which delivers the promises made during elections and not like other parties that forgets the voters once the elections are over.
“We have to get our candidates elected by a thumping majority, which will indicate that the people are happy with our governance,” he further added while disclosing that Shripad Naik will, in all probability, be BJP’s North Goa candidate.
Speaking on the occasion, St Cruz BJP block president Pramod Kamat said that there is a need to strengthen the party in St Cruz constituency and the aim should be to secure at least 9000 votes in the Lok Sabha polls. “The next MLA of St Cruz should be from the BJP,” he added.
North Goa General Secretary Hemant Golatkar, former Merces Sarpanch Girish Uskaikar, Santa Cruz panch Namdev Naik and others were present on the occasion.
