MARGAO: Margao BJP Mandal Vice President Elvis Fernandes has defied the BJP party line by announcing his candidature for Ward 17 (Malbhat) of Margao municipality. He has pitched himself against BJP member Rupesh Mahatme and present councillor Dayanand Mayenkar for the election on October 24.
Fernandes stated that the Margao Mandal had not been taking him into confidence despite making him the vice president. He said, “I have been in the Margao Mandal for quite a long time, but it has been consistently bypassing me. I am ready to take Rupesh Mahatme head on. I have always worked for ‘Malbhatkaars’ and have always been looked upon as the ward candidate.”
The Voice of Malbhat has extended its support to Fernandes. In a press note issue on Friday, it stated, “The municipality election is scheduled for October 24, and we request Elvis Fernandes to contest the election to represent Malbhat for the next five years.”
