BJP leaders will choose next MMC chairperson: Digambar Kamat

Kamat said the work of the second phase of the beautification of the historical Lohia Maidan will start very soon and the first priority is to shift the transformer installed within the Maidan to some other location.

MARGAO: Stating that the Margao Municipality is governed by the Goa Municipality Act, Margao BJP MLA Digambar Kamat said that the Chairperson of the civic body will be selected by the BJP leaders and not by him alone.  

He told reporters at Margao that the recent election was held to choose the new chairperson as per the Municipality Act, and thereafter the no-confidence motion was conducted as per the provisions of the same Act. 

“The Municipality is 

governed by the Act and it cannot run as per the view of any individuals,” said Kamat.  

He said that re-tendering process of the six-lane bridge at Rawanfond will begin in the next couple of days.  The MLA also said he had a meeting with the GSUDA pertaining to the Margao’s multi-level parking project.  

“The consultancy appointed by the GSUDA has already prepared a plan, which will be presented shortly.  Thereafter the next process of the proposed project will commence,” he said.

“An inspection in this regard will be held the next week,” Kamat added. 

Meanwhile, Kamat informed the reporters that the ‘Vocal for Local’ exhibition under the ‘Seva Pakhwada’ will be held on October 2 at Daivadnya Bhavan, Margao and it will be inaugurated by Sadanand Tanavade, BJP State President.
