PONDA: BJP and MGP have agreed to support an equal number of candidates as part of a seat-sharing formula at the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) elections.
Sunil Dessai, who filed his nomination paper for Ward 6 on Wednesday said: “It has been decided that candidates backed by the MGP and BJP will jointly contest elections in all 14 wards.”
“BJP-supported candidates will contest from seven wards, while the MGP-supported candidates will vie from the remaining seven wards. We will soon declare the list of all the 14 candidates,” informed Dessai.
Meanwhile, 76 nomination papers have been filed for the Ponda Municipal Council elections so far.
The Ponda Municipal Council election is scheduled on May 12 and the last day of filling nomination papers is April 25, scrutiny of nomination papers will be on April 26, while withdrawal will be on April 27.
Apart from former councillors, there are also several other new faces who have filed nomination papers.
Some candidates have also filed dummy nomination papers, taking the overall number of nominations to 76.
