PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Goa unit president and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Sunday said that BJP and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) are alliance partners and that they will fight 2027 polls together.

Speaking to reporters, however, he cautioned that it is too early to discuss seat-sharing arrangements. “We have an alliance with them and ave decided to continue with it but who will contest how many seats will be decided when the elections are closer,” Tanavde said.
However, Tanavade said that it is not proper on the part of MGP to speak on the issue of seat-sharing in public.
“It is not proper on the part of MGP Chief to speak on seat-sharing. Yesterday I said that BJP will field candidates in all the 40 assembly constituencies but later I remembered that we are in alliance with MGP. It is not proper to speak while being in the alliance,” he said.
Tanavade said it is not proper on part of the MGP chief to stake claim to the constituency currently being represented by the BJP MLA.
His statement comes in response to MGP Chief Deepak Dhavalikar’s claim that the alliance could secure a stable government in Goa with 27 seats in next assembly elections.
Recently, Dhavalikar said that the MGP-BJP alliance is necessary for a stable government in Goa and there would be a pre-poll pact between the two parties during the 2027 Goa assembly elections.
In 2022, the MGP had contested assembly elections in alliance with Trinamool Congress (TMC) but forged a post-poll alliance with the BJP with Madkaim MLA being inducted into the Pramod Sawant-led government.
