PANJIM: Caretaker Chief Minister Pramod Sawant along with his supporting MLAs on Monday met Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai and staked claim to form the next government in the State.

Besides, all 20 BJP MLAs, two MLAs belonging to Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), and three independents were present when Sawant submitted letters of support of his 25 MLAs to the Governor at the Raj Bhavan.
Soon after his election as the BJP legislative party leader, Sawant along with Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and L Murugan, who were deputed as Central observers by the party to oversee the election of the legislative party leader, Union Minister Shripad Naik,
BJP General Secretary Goa in charge C T Ravi and Maharashtra Leader of the Opposition Devendra Fadnavis met the Governor to stake a claim.
BJP State president Sadanand Shet Tanavade handed over to the Governor the letter of support of 20 BJP MLAs to Sawant. MGP’s Sudin Dhavalikar and Independent legislators Chandrakant Shetye, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, and Anton Vaz separately submitted letters to the Governor, extending their support to the new government under the leadership of Sawant.
After meeting the Governor, Sawant told media persons that he has been invited by the Governor to form the government and that the date and time for the swearing in would be finalised soon. He said that he has submitted letters of support received from the MGP and independents MLAs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Amit Shah and BJP National President J P Nadda would attend the swearing-in ceremony, he said.
Sawant said that the new government under him will work towards creation of a new Goa through transparency, good governance and zero corruption and Swayampurna Goa 2.0 initiatives.
“I want to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for having given me the opportunity to work as the Chief Minister of Goa for the next five years. I am glad that the people of Goa have accepted me. I’ll do everything possible to work for the development of the State,” Sawant posted on his Twitter handle.
Sawant also thanked party MLAs and workers for their support and for working hard in reaching the people with the vision of BJP’s governance and bringing the double engine government back in Goa.
