PANJIM: In an embarrassment to the own party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesman Savio Rodrigues has demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant explain to the public the reasoning behind Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude allotting Rs 50 crore work for the renovation of Kala Academy building to a company without a tendering process.
In a video released on social media, Rodrigues stated, “Prime Minister Modi is working to stem the rot of systemic corruption in the country. However, a Goa Minister allots work to a company for the renovation of Kala Academy worth Rs 50 crore without a tendering process. When the Minister is questioned by the media, he retorts by stating Shah Jahan did not need a tendering process to build the Taj Mahal. He also told the media that it was a government decision.”
The Directorate of Vigilance has already raised serious questions over the allegations in the renovation work of the Kala Academy building and has asked the government to constitute a three-member committee to investigate the allegations.
Meanwhile, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude on Saturday made a U-turn claiming that the PWD decided to award the Kala Academy renovation work through the nomination and without following a tendering process.
Gaude said that the renovation work of Kala Academy will be ready for public use by November.
