The BJP, on Monday declared candidates for 7 out of 12 wards in Cuncolim. For the remaining wards, it appears that they are facing difficulties in getting candidates for 3 wards while in some wards, there are more then three candidates vying for the BJP ticket. It looks like the party may face a few rebellions. Some who failed to get a party ticket to contest the ward elections have decided to go against the party and to contest election against the party’s official candidate.
In ward 2, a strong Karyakarta of BJP, Tarachand Dessai raised the revolt against the party. Dessai was denied a party ticket since he is contesting against BJP’s Ravindra Dessai in Veroda. In Bhiunsa, the BJP has denied a ticket for sitting councillor, Premdeep Dessai to accommodate Mandal Chief, Vishal Dessai. Premdeep has revolted against the party and decided to lock horns with BJP candidates. The ruling party might also face revolt in Culwaddo where the BJP has decided to put Ramesh Dessai as the official candidate.
BJP may also face a jolt at Maddicoto which is the local MLA, Rajan Naik’s personal ward. It has told present councillor, Polita Carneiro to file a nomination. Another name featuring for ward 3 is supporter Amey Ghodekar. There is also Satish Madaikar and Deny Morais in the race. For the ST reserved seats, the fight is between two Fadtes. Senior leader of BJP, Ashok Fadte has to face the challenge of young leader, Gaurish Fadte and senior Congressman, Kantu Dessai. In Dandora, Chairperson Lendry Mascarenhas’ wife, Suzy is contesting as an independent candidate. Rosy D’Souza and Veronica Almeida are also contesting in these elections against the Chairperson’s wife.
