PANJIM: With projects on the beaches hitting rock bottom owing to National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) order last November halting construction in CRZ areas pending finalization of coastal management plans, the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) is considering to shift its focus on other tourism important locations.
The projects are to create over 200 public utility facilities across the coastal stretch. However, constructions of these facilities that will include supplying purified drinking water, shower room, changing room, toilets, smoking zone and locker service across 30 places are awaiting a nod from Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA).
With the file proposing to create such facilities at Junus Wada (Pernem), Vagator, Arambol and Keri pending with the GCZMA for nearly six months, GTDC now intends to concentrate development of other tourist location.
“We had sought permission to create a structure comprising of all these facilities so that beach goers do not face any inconvenience.  For all this purpose, a facility is a must on the beaches. However, due to NGT order, the projects are stalled and hence we decided to not put forth further proposals for other beaches,” GTDC Chairman Nilesh Cabralsaid.
