MARGAO: The Canacona police have filed charges against 76-year-old Shabu Velip, a resident of Canacona, under Section 304 read with Section 34 of the IPC for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Additionally, Velip faces charges under Section 25 of the Arms Act of 1959 for possessing arms or ammunition and the Wildlife Protection Act. The incident relates to a hunting expedition where Khushali Velip, 56, was fatally shot.
Police have recorded statements from four individuals who were present during the hunting excursion. Investigations are ongoing, with Velip currently in police custody on remand.
The incident occurred on April 7 in the forests of Khaadem. The hunting party was engaged in the annual practice of bhovani.
