VASCO: In a shocking incident, a five-year-old girl was raped and murdered at an under-construction site at Vaddem, Vasco in the wee hours of Friday.
According to information given by South Goa SP Sunita Sawant, the victim’s parents found the body lying in the basement of the under-construction site and immediately took her to the Sub-District Hospital, Chicalim.

The doctors from the hospital noticed froth coming out of the girl’s nose and after check-up found no sign of life and informed the Vasco police.
The police rushed to the hospital and conducted the inquest panchanama and sent the body to the South Goa District Hospital, Margao for autopsy. The post-mortem examination report stated that the girl was sexually assaulted and was killed by smothering and strangulation.
The police visited the spot and interrogated several migrants workers who are working at the under construction site. Most of the migrants were also called at the police station for investigations.
According to SP Sawant, as many as 20 migrant workers working at the under-construction site were interrogated and investigation is on.
The victim was the only child of the family hailing from West Bengal and were residing in a room at Vaddem, Vasco since last nine months. Also many construction workers are residing in the adjacent temporary rooms. The rooms have no proper latches and minimum three workers were staying in one room.
The victim’s father is working as a watchman. Till Thursday midnight , the little girl was seen massaging her father’s head. But her father found daughter sleepy, and told her to go to the room to sleep with the mother. At around 2 am, the father went to the room and found his daughter missing. He asked his wife about her whereabouts and came to know that she had not come to the room. The wife had assumed that the daughter was with the father.
The couple started frantically searching their daughter and at around 2:30 am found her lying on the basement of the building. They took her to the Sub-District Hospital, Chicalim, where the doctors declared her brought dead.
It is learnt that the migrant workers have been drinking alcohol and creating nuisance in the locality. On Wednesday night, one of the workers had entered the victim’s room and attempted to outrage the modesty of the girl’s mother under the cover of darkness. The incident was reported to the supervisor next day.
The Vasco police have registered a case against unknown person/s under sections 376 and 302 of IPC and under section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act and under the relevant sections of POCSO Act.
